The United States government issues a nine-digit Social Security number (SSN) to identify each US citizen, permanent resident and temporary resident.

If you are an international student who does not have an SSN, we will assign you a unique number that you can enter in the SSN field on all of your application and loan documents.

Please note that this number:
  1. Does not take the place of any SSN, INS number, Tax ID or other number assigned by the US government; and
  2. Does not represent any legal authority to remain in the US

You must notify us immediately if you obtain a Social Security number, so we can update your account.
